Industrial Lumber
McVantage produces industrial lumber for customers across North Alabama and within 200 miles of Nashville. We generate millions of board feet each year out of our two locations. That means when you need dunnage, blocks, bracing or custom-cut lumber, we are close enough to deliver without long lead times or freight charges that eat up your budget.
What We Make
Industrial lumber covers a lot of ground. We cut hardwoods and southern yellow pine depending on what your application calls for. Here are some of the items we run through our mills on a regular basis:
Dunnage: Rough lumber used to separate, support or elevate materials during shipping and storage.
Band grooved materials: Lumber with grooves cut for banding straps to secure loads.
Chocks and blocks: Cut pieces used to brace products on flatbed trailers, railcars or warehouse floors.
Wedge cuts: Angled lumber for leveling loads or creating ramps.
Mining bracing: Structural lumber for underground support systems.
Custom cuts: Tell us what you need. We can cut many different shapes and sizes.
Why Does Proximity Matter?
We only serve areas within 200 miles of our facilities in North Alabama and near Nashville. It’s a deliberate choice because staying local means we can turn orders around faster and respond the same day when you have a last-minute request. It also keeps freight costs lower than sourcing from distributors hundreds of miles further away.
Hardwood vs. Southern Yellow Pine
Not sure which species fits your job? Here is a quick breakdown.
Hardwoods (like oak and poplar) offer density and wear resistance. They hold up under heavy loads and repeated impacts. Use them for permanent bracing, heavy equipment dunnage or any application where the lumber takes a beating.
Southern yellow pine gives you strength at a lower price point. It is widely available in our region and machines cleanly. Use it for disposable dunnage, blocking and band grooved materials where the lumber only needs to last one shipment.
We can help you match the right species to your application. Call us and tell us what you are loading, how heavy it is and whether the lumber will get reused or thrown away.
How We Cut
Our milling equipment handles volume without slowing down. We produce millions of board feet annually, so we have the capacity to fill large orders. But we also have the flexibility to cut smaller runs or one-off custom pieces. That combination of scale and agility is hard to find from other industrial lumber suppliers in the region.
